As promised, we’re playing the rest of the available Fog Music from Aural Films on this week’s edition of At Water’s Edge–Fog Music #4 from Scott Lawlor (the host of “The Blind Flight” on Friday nights on Stillstream), and #6, just released this week, from EugeneKha. And–bonus!–we’ll hear a few other new releases this week as well from Chris Russell, Magnetic Wind (who celebrates a birthday this week) and C.Paradisi.
Aural Films is an online record label (netlabel) that releases high-quality soundtrack albums for movies that do not exist. “Fog Music” is a series of recordings inspired by the weather condition known as fog. Light and dark, wet and dry, this invasive event is a great source of inspiration for sound artists from around the world. Eventually, Aural Films hopes to publish 24 hours of these recordings as an on-going series for all to hear and enjoy.

Scott Lawlor enjoys composing long form ambient music and broadcasting on the internet. He currently hosts a program on Stillstream internet radio called “The Blind Flight.” He has released works on a number of netlabels as well as on his personal site. Evgenij V. Kharitonov performs, records and releases music as EugeneKha. Poet and Musician, Writer, Sound and visual artist. He was born in 1969 in Moscow. Has got philological education, the author of numerous literary publications and many books, works in journalism. The publisher and the editor of magazine of literary and art avant-guard “Drugoe Polusharie/Another Hemisphere”, audio-magazine of sound poetry and audio art “ARTronic Poetry”, the curator of Festival of experimental art “Lapa Azora”. Illuminoid is Chris Russell’s journey into the realm of the spirit, and indeed this release is as prayerful as it is beautiful. Of this release, Chris writes:
This album began in early 2011 under a more controversial theme of what some would call illumination. After working on the early mixes for months, I totally abandoned and forgot about the project. I still held on to the cover art knowing I would come back to working on this album again. Fast forward to 2013, at the end of the Portal sessions while going through a stack of cd’s, I discovered a sample library of vocals that I had for years and forgot about. I was instantly inspired at the choirs and religious chants that were in this library. I began writing and arranging music around these heavenly vocal beds and Gregorian chants. I soon realized that this new music was to be Illuminoid. I scrapped all the previous material and began anew. After a few months of inspired, deeply spiritual sessions, the album revealed itself like a beam of sunlight through the clouds.
Thus, my seventh studio album Illuminoid was born.

Working in original composition, Magnetic Wind employs soft synth melodies along with pianos, world percussion, soft voice effects, field recordings, and experimentation with organic instrumentation to create arrangements with a cinematic depth. She has been featured on public, college and internet radio around the world.
Released by the Free Floating Music netlabel (this month’s featured label on Stillstream), C.paradisi is the ambient music project of Brad Ross-McLeod, the founder of the Free Floating label. He writes of this release:
It feels like bringing my children back home…
When I started Free Floating I hesitated to release my own music through the label. Part of me felt that it was presumptuous to put my music next to that of artists whose music I consider some of the best in the world. But time, and great encouragement from some of those same artists, has softened my views on this. As part of this year I call “In Hindsight”, I felt it made sense to bring my own works into the fold of Free Floating and perhaps to new audiences. And so here I present my first two collections released under my performing moniker, “C.paradisi”.
I titled the works ‘sketches’ as I felt that they were tentative explorations in exploring my abilities as an artist and experiments in how technologies could help me realize the sounds I was yearning to hear.
The first volume (tracks 1-5 here) were fairly traditional in form, my performing the basic parts on keyboard and then manipulating the results through looping, stretching, overdubbing, etc.
The second volume (tracks 6-13) represent a different technique altogether, using generative processes to create musical seeds that I would then watch blossom and develop. I went from being an architect–building tracks brick by brick–to working more like a gardener–preparing the soil, planting the seeds, and pruning the vines. This has become my preferred method of composition now, and one that I continue to enthusiastically explore.
Perhaps in the not so distant future Free Floating can then bring you Sketches from the Edge of Silence v. 3 and beyond….
In the meantime, I hope that you enjoy this music as much as I have enjoyed making it.
